Amani films
storytelling
“A REALLY HEARTWARMING FILM ABOUT A SINGLE DAD AND HIS SONS ON THEIR ANNUAL TRIP SURFING IN DEVON. IT GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS, LEFT ME A LITTLE BIT TEARY AND VERY HOPEFUL.”
— HANNAH MAIA
Letting stories unfold
I am an independent filmmaker and designer working through a minimalist approach to cinematic storytelling.
Amani is a practice of storytelling as a form of peacemaking. It is a way of working that looks for understanding rather than conclusion, creating space for stories to breathe. I explore how stories can invite empathy, reflection, and shared perspective, allowing people and experiences to be seen with care and understanding.
Through film, photography, and design, I shape narratives that feel honest and connected. From concept to final edit, I bring together image, sound, and story in a collaborative process that allows work to unfold in its own way.
-
My work is rooted in simplicity, presence, and observation. I film with a light footprint, using minimal equipment and natural light to allow real moments to unfold. In sensitive environments, this approach creates space for people and situations to feel natural and at ease.
-
My practice is grounded in observational storytelling. Across Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and beyond, I have worked with NGOs, organisations, and communities to document life as it is lived. These films explore complexity and connection, creating awareness that lives in the the space where meaning is felt, not explained.
-
My process is built on trust, intuition, and openness. I work with people and organisations that value collaboration, allowing ideas to develop naturally over time. We work together through listening, shaping, and refining, until the work finds its own clarity.
-
I document personal and collective moments with a cinematic approach. From weddings to gatherings, I focus on atmosphere, connection, and the feeling of the unfolding of time, where all the magic lives.
